My journey as a health enthusiast started when I was just a teenager. For as long as I could remember, I struggled with severe anxiety, panic attacks, and an array of other very painful and unexplained symptoms. Each morning I would wake up with painful joints, debilitating migraines, and absolutely no energy. Being a college student, this was especially frustrating because I had such a strong desire to succeed- I loved school, but my symptoms took over my life and my ability to perform at my peak potential. It never occurred to me that my SAD diet was to blame for this miserable life I was living.
I tried seeing a psychiatrist, but he was quick to put me on an antidepressant and nudge me out the door. I saw multiple specialists, had many tests done, but they found nothing. The antidepressants only made things worse. I was starting to worry that I would never be well again. Wanna know the worst part about it? No one would listen. My family, my friends, my boyfriend, the doctors... No one. Everyone said that it was "all in my head". But here's the game-changer; they were right.
As I started to collect all of the research on how diet influences physical and mental health, I discovered this wonderful new scientific finding: "the gut-brain connection". All of the pieces started to fit together. I was finally able to convince one doctor to test me just once more. Sure enough, I had an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder: Celiac Disease (a disease in which the lining of the gut and the small intestine is attacked and damaged from eating foods that contain the protein "gluten"). My gut was extremely permeable, causing toxins to leach into my blood stream, thus crossing the blood-brain-barrier, which was causing EVERY single symptom that I was having. (So much to take in, I know)
What I learned, was far beyond going "gluten-free", it was diving directly into the deep nutritional exploration of whole foods and learning how to nourish my body back to health without a chemical dependancy. Once I was able to heal my gut and stop the inflammation that was ruining my body and my life; I was able to fully regain my health and feel vibrant again.
I am now a mama to a happy, healthy baby boy and was able to graduate college with an impeccable GPA. Each morning, I wake up with energy and drive to do what I love. My health goals may have been obtained, but I am always looking for ways to improve myself and learn about new things each and every day.
I knew that it was my calling to help others struggling with diet-related health issues to teach them the exceptional and satisfying world of health and wellness.
Wild Pepper Nutrition was created to teach others about the power that nutrition holds and how food can be the best medicine on the market for a multitude of things. Change is not going to happen over-night, but your body has this wonderful ability to heal itself just through nutrition and wellness practice, if you just give it the right tools and some time.
Trust me when I say, I have been there. I know what it is like to feel helpless and hopeless, because I once was.
